Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Footsteps of the Ancients

Morning

JR Hiroshima Station → JR Tokuyama Station (Shinkansen: Nozomi or Sakura, approx. 20m)

  • JR Tokuyama Station → Tokuji (Approx. 30m by car)
  • Visit Gatsurin-ji Yakushido: A National Important Cultural Property and the oldest wooden structure in Yamaguchi Prefecture.

    Visit Hoko-ji Temple: Explore the Amida-do Hall and learn about the historic reconstruction of Todai-ji Temple.

    Lunch

  • Mokuraitei – Enjoy a lunch featuring Tokuji’s famous Jinenjo (wild mountain yam).
  • Afternoon

    * A stroll through the Shimaji district and a visit to Hanao Hachiman-gu Shrine.

    Tokuji Washi Experience at Chijimatsu Washi Studio: Learn the traditional craft of handmade Japanese paper.

    Day 2: Ancient Baths & Sacred Giants

    Kishimi no Ishifuro (Stone Bath): Observe the traditional firing process and experience a unique steam bath used for centuries for healing.
