Located in the nature-rich region of Tokuji, Yamaguchi City, Chogen-no-Sato is a heritage park dedicated to the legacy of Chogen, the high-ranking Kamakura-period monk who devoted his life to the reconstruction of Todai-ji Temple. The village beautifully recreates a nostalgic Japanese "Satoyama" landscape, featuring traditional thatched-roof houses, watermills, and scenery that transforms with the four seasons. A stroll through the grounds, filled with crisp, clean air, offers a perfect refresh for both body and soul. Visitors can immerse themselves in authentic cultural workshops unique to the region, including woodworking, traditional papermaking (Washi), and Soba noodle making. The local cuisine, crafted from ingredients nurtured by Tokuji’s fertile land, is also a major draw. Deep within the park stands a rare 800-year-old camellia tree, known as the "Millennium Camellia," cherished by many as a powerful spiritual spot for wishing for longevity.
